"In order that this publication may express exclusively Japanese ideas, the publishers have imported all the material needed for illustrating and bindng the work...the photographs are all made and colored by hand in Japan...The silk bindings with tassels and cords for the ten sections were woven to order in Kyoto by S. Iida...The silk was dyed to order and the combination of colors used is based upon a collection of fine brocades in the palace of the present Emperor of Japan."--P. vii
